Testing Costs and Details
Learning disability assessments are normally an out-of-pocket expense not covered by insurance. The bad news is that these tests can be quite expensive. The good news is that DASA offers all of our assessments in the home offices of our diagnosticians, dramatically reducing the overhead for our tests. With us, you are paying for the assessment itself, not a high-end office space with a full-time secretary. Feel free to shop around and compare. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Full Individual Evaluation
(FIE)
The FIE is a comprehensive set of tests designed to meet state and federal requirements, including Child Find Law. These laws require complete testing of cognition ( actual ability to learn) and achievement ( performance in reading, writing, and math) in order to have a complete picture of a tester’s strengths and weaknesses and to make a formal diagnosis of dyslexia or other learning disability. The FIE a contains formal recommendations for school or work.
An FIE is required for all school-age children being tested. It is also required for college age students and adults by most colleges, testing boards, and employers. Our above-listed price for an FIE represents the cost for a private family or individual, and is a substantial discount of our regular cost of testing for a school or other funded agency.

Dysgraphia & ADHD
Testing
Dysgraphia testing evaluates writing and fine-motor skills, while ADHD testing assesses attention, executive functioning, and processing abilities—both of which often occur alongside dyslexia assessments due to the frequent overlap in learning challenges.
These evaluations may be conducted as add-ons to the Full Individual Evaluation (FIE) for a more comprehensive understanding of learning needs, or independently when a full evaluation is not required. Standalone assessment or add-on testing provides targeted insights, helps distinguish between primary reading disorders and attention-related challenges, and offers tailored recommendations for support.

Recertification Testing
Dyslexia and many other learning disabilities are considered lifelong inherited conditions. However, a person’s abilities and performance may improve or decline over time due to any number of factors, such as learning coping skills or reaching a “ceiling”. For this reason, most schools and agencies require re-certification every few years. A re-certification provides documentation and support for continued help in school or testing, and, in some cases, also provides legal protections on the job.
