The dasa difference

Our Assessments

There are three types of individuals who are qualified to perform dyslexia and learning disability testing: an educational psychologist, an educational diagnostician, or a licensed specialist in school psychology (LSSP). Don’t be taken in by tutoring companies that can only “qualify” you for their expensive tutoring programs. Always ask about credentials.

Our diagnosticians are state-certified educational diagnosticians, and their credentials may be viewed on the State Board for Educator Certification website. In addition to certification and graduate studies that allow us to test both children and adults, we offer bilingual (Spanish and English) testing and can also assess for attention deficit disorder and other conditions such as dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and visual processing disorders.

We do not simply hand you a report and tell you to “have a nice day.” We have decades of experience, and we walk with you, step by step, through each part of the assessment process—answering your questions, explaining your results, and guiding you in the next steps for success.  We understand how school systems operate and what documentation is most helpful.

Every assessment includes a debriefing session in which we cover your child’s strengths and weaknesses, provide learning tips for better fluency and comprehension, and discuss online and community resources for future success. We do not simply hand you a report. We provide a 9–12-page testing report, any legal diagnosis related to the testing, and recommended accommodations for classroom instruction, tests, and workplace needs.

At DASA, we are committed to guiding you through the steps of advocating for yourself or your child at work or school.  Our goal is to support meaningful collaboration and promote effective advocacy.

BEYOND THE DIAGNOSIS

How it Helps

A reading assessment helps individuals understand how a child—or adult—learns, identifies reading challenges such as dyslexia, and determines which supports are most effective. For many families, an assessment is the first step toward clarity and informed decision-making.

Formal assessment documentation is often required for school and college accommodations, including extended testing time or alternative formats. Assessments may also be needed for state assistance programs, job training, or workplace accommodations.

Some families seek a private assessment for a second opinion or because school timelines do not meet their child’s immediate needs. Private assessments can provide timely results, a comprehensive written report, and clear, actionable recommendations.

At its core, a reading assessment is about understanding both strengths and challenges—so individuals of all ages can move forward with confidence.
